Checklist for a perfect wallpaper installation
Wallcoverings have always been instrumental in enhancing the visual inertia for all interior spaces. The charm of these wall are unattainable with an alternative material/wall clad. A perfect wallpaper for your wall is selected with efforts of going through numerous design, textures, colors and material and etc. but all the hard work doesn’t end here, it is followed with a perfect installation procedure.
Many a times it happens that a poor workmanship and improper installation techniques can mess up the job and ruin all your efforts put in selection and coordination.
Imagine your months of planning and visualization getting ruined by an installation error.
From our years of experience, we have realized that one must strictly consider certain things to ensure a perfect wallcovering job.
First things first.. preparation of the wall.
Environment is an important constrain. We have observed that during installation, simultaneous carpentry and masonry works are carried out. This produces a lot of dust particles which spoil the smoothness and detiorates the strength of glue. Thus, before commencing the installation, all the carpentry, masonry related activities have been taken care of or are been carried out in a separate space. Apart from the physical aspects, the dampness of the wall adversely affects the life of wallpaper. As a solution to this there should be a check on the seepage of water for the external walls, if such seepage are detected the installation must be immediately stopped.
The installer needs to ensure proper drying of primer, sealed conduits, and surface without irregularity. Direct hanging of wallpaper on existing paints is not advisable. A white based primer helps to throw the true color of wallpaper.
Once confirmed with the above points, your wall is ready for installation.
The installation procedure may vary from material to material. Wallpaper with fabric, wood veneer and paper base needs wet treatment before installation whereas contract grade wallpaper can be directly glued on wall. It should be mentioned the specification of the adhesive, that it suits the backing of wallpaper. This helps in assuring a healthy bond between the wall paper and wall.
Thirdly, the technicalities of installation come into picture. The pattern repeat is an important aspect which maintains the rhythm of design. The patterns of wallpaper should be properly aligned. It is always advisable to spare unglued extra wallpaper at the ends of each wallpaper panel, which can be cut on later part of installation. Such a technique helps to attain sharp and clean edges of wallpaper. The wallpaper should be properly pressed to wall which ensures a wall free of air bubbles. The installer should be equipped with sharp blades, sponge, smoother, and a plumb bob.
The installation is complete once wallpaper is glued on wall and thoroughly smoothened of any air pockets. The wall needs to be left idle for 12 hours in normal situations and 24 hours in humid atmosphere for complete drying of glue.
If the above points are attended religiously, nothing can stop you from getting a lot of compliments and that happy feeling of having a fabulous wall.
